17 weeks

What's happening with baby this week: our baby will begin to form fat this week. The fat begins to deposit under the skin and is important in heat production and metabolism. At delivery, fat will account for 2-6 percent of our baby's total body weight and will help him/her to maintain body temperature when born. Our baby now weighs more than the placenta coming in at approximately 6 inches long and weighing about 8 ounces. The doctor said between 9 and 11. So who knows.

Reflex movements are fully functional as baby will regularly suck and swallow and loud noises outside the uterus may actually cause the baby to startle. The baby is now sensitive to light and although it is dark inside the belly the baby can sense whether I am in a light or dark place. Also if I shine a flashlight at my tummy the baby would cover its eyes and shift away from the light.

What's happening with mommy this week: I am still feeling really good. Almost zero amounts of nausea, I get about one or two headahces a week but that is completely manageable. The worse thing I have is heartburn and indigestion but I can take tums or pecid or whatever for that so it's really not that bad. I am a very happy camper. On another note I am so excited for november!!!! Not only is it finally getting cool here (yesterday I needed a jacket!!) but mamaw is coming to visit me for 4 days!! She will be here a week from today so I am very excited about that. Mary ellen is coming to see us for the day on monday, we are going to go look at baby stuff!! I am super excited about that. AND then my mom is coming to see me for 4 days the weeks of thanksgiving saturday-tuesday AND she will get to go to the ultrasound and be with us when we find out what the baby is!! Ecstatic about both of those things....Then to top it off we are going to tennessee to see ben's parents for thanksgiving and of course we will get to see the rest of the family some of whom I have never met. SO obviously very excited about that. It is going to be a great month for me!!! Sometimes I get really homesick for family living here in orlando but this month is gonna be great. I can't wait. That's all that I really have for now. Also if you have kids that are dressing up for halloween or if you are dressing up for halloween then send me pics!! I want to see and if you don't mind then I will put some of them on the blog!! YAY!!

I was not able to comment on the previous post so I will post my comments here.

I am so excited about coming to Florida and getting to be with you when we find out what the baby is. The rest of you don't worry....we will shout it from the rooftops when we find out.

As for being behind. I think you are fine. You already know so much of that stuff that they teach you at classes.

As for the different choices for childbirth. I thought there was only 2. With drugs or without.
I chose with.

Although you were so fast they couldn't give me any and that was ok because it didn't last very long.

If you will send me the different information, I will help you research. Also, take advantage of a house full of woment in TN.

I will send you pictures of us trick or treating.

Dad and I were grandparents in training today for the Jenkins boys.

I think we are going to be very good grandparents.

I am off to ride the train right now.

Love you,

Mom

Ah the day you begin to form fat! Important day in our family. Due to genetics it never stops in the Cox family...perhaps some Moltz jeans will slow it down!

I had a mental picture of Moltz jeans trying to slow down fat. But then I realized Jarod probably meant genes. I like my original mental image better.
