Sentences

I've said it before and I will say it again. Aiden is at SUCH a FUN age! It's like all the lights have been turned on and he is turning into a real little person right in front of me. He can say pretty much any word I say back to me. He understands EVERYTHING! and he now speaks in sentences. He is putting 3 and 4 words together like it's no big deal. The sentences I can think of off the top of my head that he has said this week are:

Where'd the "blank" go? ---ball, truck, etc.
Where daddy go?
Be right back
Aiden go outside
Zaccy go nite nite (zaccy is our puppy)
Mommy food please
This on face? (talking about my makeup)
See ya later (ben taught him this)
What ya doing huh??--- Yes he says the huh? Cracks me up!!!

There are countless others. I started this list and then realized this isn't a very interesting list for everyone else to read but I am just AMAZED by the new things he says and knows almost every single day.

The other day... I usually am always up before aiden is up and I drink my coffee and watch the today show while I wait for him to stir. The other day I heard him wake up and start talking to himself and he was having both sides of the conversation. It went like this...

Where's daddy?
work
OH
Where's zaccy?
nite nite
OH
Where's gigi?
bye bye
OH
Where's mommy?
PAUSE- He didn't say pause, there just was a pause where he though to himself, yea mommy should be here...
MOMMY!!!!

I seriously thought about videotaping this but then realized I would have to video the outside of a door and just get the audio of aiden talking to himself. I thought it was really funny though and he actually said "OH" like he had just told himself something new.

Pretty much anything we tell Aiden to do he understands. The other day ben and I were just sitting in our living room (in case you haven't been to our house we have a TON of windows that line our living room so we never turn the lights on when it's daytime) it was getting dark and I said "ben will you turn the lights on" and he said something like "will YOU turn the lights on?" and then ben told aiden "aiden mommy wants the light turned on"...aiden knows which light switch turns the living room lights on and so he looks at the light switch and realizes he can't reach it and he goes to get his chair which is in his room and he drags it into the living room and underneath the light switch, stands on top of it and turns on the light for us!!!! I didn't know whether to be incredibly proud of him or to be embarrassed for us that we asked our 2 year old to turn the light on for us and he DID IT! I think I'm leaning towards PROUD!

It really is fun around here! It's like aiden has understood all these things for a while but is just now learning to really verbalize all the things he knows. It also warms my heart that things like praying before meals and bedtime or saying please, thank you and your welcome, and singing bible songs really seems to be engrained into him. He thinks every book I pick up is the bible and he will open it up and say "the bible so" from jesus loves me. It convicts me when whatever book it is is not actually the bible...

I really feel like "hey what we've been doing HAS made a difference!!!" He is such a sweet boy!!

Today at lunch we went to eat with 2 couples from church and aiden would keep sharing his food with this little girl who is 18 mos. and say "here ya go" "your welcome"...everyone at the table commented on how sweet aiden is and how much fun he is to be around. It made me so happy just because I know what it's like to be around 2 year olds who are little terrors and ben and I have worked REALLY hard to try and teach aiden how to be sweet and well behaved and have good manners. We tell him no when it would be easier to say yes, we punish him when we really don't want to, and we spank him when it hurts us more than it hurts him but we are starting to see the fruits of that labor....What a sweet little boy we have!

*****Please don't make me eat my words when Aiden turns into a holy terror in 3 more months despite all of our best intentions in parenting! Because YES I do know that happens!!!!**********************

Here is just a little snippet of a video of aiden doing "if you're happy and you know it". We sing this song a lot in our house and aiden is really good at the singing and the motions but when I whip out the camera he gets worse. I know I need to get more things on video but since aiden knows when I have the video camera pointed at him it's hard. I desperately need a tripod to catch all of this and to take pictures of us when it's just aiden and me!

Oh and if you're not familiar with the song...the last verse is "if you're happy and you know it shout HOORAY!" which is what he does in the middle of the clap your hands part. He does hooray a little early and we didn't get to "hooray" because aiden jumped on me during the "stomp your feet"!!
