Maternity Clothes

My clothes are getting to the point where they don't fit and I was going to boycott buying any more since I only have a few weeks left but my wonderful aunt kim gave me a gift card to target to buy things that fit. So I went to target today to look for a couple of things that will get me through these last few weeks and it was a thoroughly depressing process. So now I will share with all of you how I feel about maternity clothes....you would think that maternity clothes would be made to "fit" all mothers to be from just being a couple months pregnant to being 9+ months pregnant but this is not the case. When I was very first starting to show and went out to buy maternity clothes, nothing really looked right because my tummy wasn't yet big enough to fill out the designated tummy area. So for those first few months into pregnancy you basically just wear clothes that look slightly too big and you just look like you have been eating too many donuts rather than that you are growing a child. Now when you get to about 5 or 5 and a half month your tummy starts to look like baby instead of too many hamburgers and this is when the maternity clothes start to look really cute. Then from about there through the 7th month is the "golden age" of maternity clothes. Everything fits right, your belly looks super cute in all the clothes, you fill out tummy panels perfectly...it's great. Now past the 7 and a half month you are again in trouble with the maternity clothes...because now you have to buy the larger sizes and this usually means it doesn't fit anywhere besides in your tummy. I am now at the dead end of the pregnancy and maternity clothes are just not made to fit the shape that I am. My tummy is even too big for some of the larges but then if I try the XL my shoulders and chest do not even come close to filling it out. As far as any kind of bottoms I cannot wear anything with a panel (this means comes up to say the middle or bottom of your belly) because it is way too uncomfortable so I have to wear things that are under belly only. It's just no good sooooo moral of the story is that maternity clothes are not made to fit people all through the 9 months of pregnancy (actually 10, why do people lie and say 9?? thats a whole other post....), nope maternity clothes are wonderful for that 5-7 month and the other months you are just not going to look good. So basically I may not be taking any more pictures of myself during this pregnancy because I only have about 3 things that still fit and I don't really look very good in those things anyways.

You are right, maternity clothes are not "one size fits all" rather "will fit for a short time-good luck with the rest". I'm sure you look great!! I still want to see pictures, too. Love to you all, Sherry

You will always look good to those who love you so please send more pictures. We all understand the nothing fits, and even if it did it wouldn't be comfortable anyway at this point in your pregnancy. I hope you are enjoying your break.

Yep.........we want pictures!

I didn't have that problem when I was pregnant. I just wore big dresses that looked like moo moos!
Actually, Mammaw made most of my clothes.

I wish I had more pictures but that was back when we tried to hide the fact that they were pregnant instead of embracing it.

I was going to say, just go get some comfy stretchy pj pants and an large man's teeshirt and go for it! I wore stretchy dresses at the end of my pregnancy. Mostly tee shirt material. Use the gift card on something else if you want. You could do like Jennifer Aniston in Friends and just pull your shirt up over your tummy and wear your skirt down below it.. GO FOR IT!
