Let's Chronicle

At Aiden's one year check up  I was told that he is very advanced in his motor skills, coordination, cognitive development. However; at this age they expect babies to be able to say two words. Which they count "mama" and "dada" so he's got that. However; I am not at all convinced that he knows the MEANING of those words, but Dr. said that counts so I guess that is good. Ever since then I have been "working" with him on words or at least trying to. Sometimes he follows along and does great, sometimes not.

My brother Jarod was over here the other day and we were trying to teach him "ball" and Jarod mentioned that his baby book says he was talking at 11 months. Oh yes jarod? and what were you saying? haha. My point here is that this is one of the reasons I am glad I have a blog so that I will know EXACTLY. Any mother is going to give their child the best age they can on when they started doing things. Like I would say...Aiden said "dada" for the first time in october so my little genius was talking at 7 months!!! That's not really true though. (This is in no way to contradict Jarod, I am sure he was speaking full sentences at 11 months!) So now I am going to make a list of all the things Aiden is doing/ liking RIGHT NOW so that I can remember. Feel free not to read them.

1) Aiden can say "mama" "dada" "baba" and something that sounds like "goose" or "GA"
2) Aiden is walking absolutely everywhere. He never crawls anymore and is quite a good little walker.
3) Aiden loves to try and go up the stairs, he is also good at this and we have to constantly yell no. The problem with him going up the stairs, is he doesn't yet know how to get down.
4) Aiden LOVES bath time, always has. Put him in the bath and he will splash and play for as long as you want.
5) Aiden always falls asleep by putting a soft blankie in his mouth. It doesn't have to be the same one. He has about 3 that feels the same but if you go in and look at him once he's asleep he will have the edge of a soft blankie in his mouth.
6) When Aiden is fussy for no particular reason and I have done everything to calm him and nothing works, I go and sit him in his bed. He doesn't sleep, just plays in his crib and for some reason it calms him and makes him happy.
7) Aiden LOVES peek a boo....or any variation on peek a boo. Hiding and jumping out to scare him. LOVES it. We play pretty much all day every day.  He has also gotten very good at hiding himself. He will put a blanket over his face or hide behind something and then come out.
8) Aiden does not like the sun. He acts somewhat like he is melting in sunlight and will start sneezing.
9) Aiden runs to the door when his daddy gets home and leans against his legs until Ben picks him up. It's too cute.
10) Aiden smiles the hugest smile when I go into his room in the morning to pick him up and then he will hug me for like a minute. It's one of my favorite moments of the day.
11) Aiden is very good at feeding himself but wants nothing to do with learning how to use a spoon or fork. He picks everything up with 2 fingers.
12) Aiden is almost completely on whole milk now instead of formula. Thank goodness, it's so much cheaper!
13) Aiden loves to BANG on things and make lots of noise. Oh the joy!
14) Aiden loves remotes and cell phones and electronic things in general. He will steal a remote or phone and then start running cause he knows you're coming after him to get it.
15) Aiden likes music. He will sit in my lap or on the couch next to me and watch parts of american idol. As long as they are singing. He does not like all the talk...come to think of it neither do I!
16) Aiden is kind of clingy and wants to be close to either ben or I at all times. He will follow us from room to room.
17) Aiden is a great little mimic. He will try to make the expressions or noises that we are making back to us. He is pretty good at it too.
18) When aiden is feeling shy of someone new or someone he doesn't know well he will come and lay his head against my legs or knees depending on if I'm standing or sitting but he will keep smiling at "new" person. It is cute.
19) Aiden constantly gets into EVERYTHING. From our drawers to the trash can to our TV cabinet. It doesn't matter how much you try to tie those things closed or trick him. He will figure out how to get in.  Or the fridge and dishwasher! He loves those too.
20) At one year we are still shooting for 2 naps a day but sometimes he only gets 1 long one in the middle of the day.
21) Aiden likes to be in new places and "explore" and look at new things.
22) Aiden does not like sudden unexplained loud noises. Like when you vacuum, turn on the car, etc.
23) Aiden likes to drink cold water from a water bottle like us. A lot of it ends up down the front of his shirt but he likes the coldness.
24) Aiden likes puppies and every time we are at my mom's or anyone else's who has a puppy he will try to chase/ play with the puppy.
25) Aiden likes all kinds of balls. He likes to walk around carrying them and putting them in his mouth. Loves them.
26) Aiden will be playing with some kind of toy (any kind) and decide he wants to walk around but wants to take the toy with him so he will pick it up and walk with it. Doesn't matter how heavy it is or awkward to carry. He will try.
27) Aiden has a weird thing for shoes and feet. If ben and I leave our shoes out he will pick them up and try to chew on them. If we are sitting around the house without shoes on he will come over and try to put your toes in his mouth. Weird I know!
28) Aiden knows how to take his shoes and socks off and takes them off constantly. It's a battle to keep his feet covered.
29) Aiden doesn't really like "soft" foods. He will suck on them until they are mush and then spit them out. He is better with crunchy things.
30) Aiden is at the most fun and loving age. Whether or not he associates the right words or not, he knows who I am and shows me how much he loves me all the time. He wants hugs and kisses and to be held and when he sees me he will run to me with his arms held up for me to pick him up. It warms my heart.

I know that was really long, but I just want to have these things for us. Thanks for reading if you did!

Glad you are writing this all down. I have forgotten everything my kids did and it really upsets Kat. She asks me all the time about her life as a baby and I just don't remember it. Oh well, I would print these out and add them to a binder as you go for him to keep. Just in case blogger disappears someday and takes our blogs with them.

Hope to see you tonight.

I am so glad you are writing this down. I went to look at yours and Jarod's baby books to see what you were saying at 1 year, and it was very vague. I have all these fun things we did with people I don't even know who they are now.

Apparently, we took Jarod to his first Ranger game when he was 1 year old with somebody named Frank and Lolly.

If anybody knows who that it is.....let me know???

I also have very memorable trips, like or trip to Mexico with Mammaw and Bear and I think I only have 1 or 2 pictures to prove it.

We will definitely have Aiden's first trips well documented. :-)

Of course, picture taking has improved a lot since you and Jarod were babies. There was no such thing as digital and what we did have were 3 1/2 x 5.

we need some new video. show us how he plays hide and seek or how he says mama and dada.

although I heard him say ma ma today.

1 more thing.....he likes to ride in the stroller as long as there is plenty to look at.

LOVE THE DOCUMENTATION!!! You're right, he will smile at anyone. He IS at a fun age. I sure loved watching him take it all in at the zoo. He is so incredibly easy!! My kids didn't like the vacuum either...well....when I actually used it...that was my excuse...
