Ok so I called the Dr. first thing this morning to see if we should take Aiden in to be checked out because of his eating problem. First I talked to a nurse who asked about a billion questions and then said she would discuss it with our Dr. and he would call me back. Side note: I LOVE our pediatrician, it will be one of the sadder things for me when we move and we have to find a new pediatrician. As well as finding a new OB-GYN cause I LOVE my doctors there too! :) Ok so anyways the Dr. called me back and spent about 15 minutes on the phone with me going over everything Aiden is doing and the synopsis is basically at this point he doesn't think there is anything wrong with Aiden. Dr. Hayne said that IF he was getting an ear infection, or a cold, flu, etc. he would be more fussy and he would TRY to eat and it would look painful to the sight. This is not the case, Aiden doesn't look like he's in pain, quite the contrary actually he looks like a little toot just smiling up at us while we try desperately to shove food down his throat! Dr. Hayne said that it COULD be that he is outgrowing his nipple (the one on the bottle, haha that sounded funny) and needs to go up to the next size (size 2) which is a little bigger and allows the milk to come out a little more quickly....Dr. Hayne said that older babies get fed up with how slow newborn nipples are, but he is still a
little bit too young for this to be the case but it is worth a try to try the different nipple and see if we have more success with it. He said the most likely thing is just that he is going through a phase where he finds other things more interesting than eating, he likes to talk and smile and play and take in colors and play with his hands, etc. And for the time being eating is just not at the top of the list. Ben and I said he definitely doesn't belong in our family then!! haha. The Dr. said babies have a survival instinct just like the rest of us in that they are NOT going to let themselves starve and he is probably only taking what he needs to make his tummy not "feel" hungry anymore and then deciding he can be done.
Anyways long story short, we are going to try the bigger nipple and see if that makes any difference. Dr. Hayne said we have some time to let this phase run its course because he is still a happy baby and as long as he continues to wet and poop his diapers (proving that he is not dehydrated) that there is no immediate cause for concern. He said he would like a call from me next week to let him know if the situation has reversed itself (which he believes it will) and if it hasn't then we will schedule a doctor's visit. In the meantime he said if any other symptoms suddenly present themselves like the absence of wet diapers, sudden fussiness, fatigue, pain, etc. then to call and we will get him in earlier than that. SOOO basically we are gonna let him eat what he wants when he wants and trust that he has this under control.
We will let you know how it goes, thanks for all the advice and concern!!!

Well, I am glad you got to speak with the Doc. I know that was reassuring and that he gave you some peace of mind. :-)
It is so reassuring when you like and trust your doctors. You are really lucky yo have one that is willing to spend the time to talk and reassure you. By the time Aiden is a 1 year old you will be able to write your own version of "What to Expect the Year".
Love you
do you remember when Robert would only drink juice? trust your doc. they wont starve themselves.. i wish i had his problem.. miss you!
I'm glad he's not sick. I can't wait until yall move to Texas and I get to meet him!! And see yall, of course. :)
I can't get a doctor to spend 15 minutes with me when I go in and sit for an hour in the waiting room and then spend the office fee.
You are lucky to get one that will talk to you on the phone for 15 minutes. I know you will hate leaving that.
